The unveiling is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today, before the Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is home to a unique memorial that pays respect to warriors of all races and cultural backgrounds.
Virginia Armstrong, the Coordinator with the Ingersoll Downtown BIA, says the official unveiling of the Veterans Crosswalk will be taking place at 10:30 a.m. today.
"The Veterans Crosswalk is located at the corner of King Street and Oxford Street. We're also honoured that Veterans Affairs Canada will be spending a representative to be part of our ceremony that day, so we're pretty excited about that."
She adds it was a team effort.
"It was a collaboration of various groups within our community and a committee was established to make this project become a reality."
The crosswalk features the phrase "Lest We Forget" in English and French. It also includes Indigenous languages as well, with the Oneida phrase "all the people remember, thank you warriors" and the Anishnaabemowin (Ojibwe) phrase "all my relations remember, thank you warriors."
Local artist Deb Campbell brought the design to life with help from co-artist Patricia Marshal-DeSutter, the Ingersoll Legion and the Veteran’s Crosswalk Committee. Marshal-DeSutter is also the Director of the Indigenous Solidarity and Awareness Network for Oxford County.
