Input Needed for Gender Based Violence Education Program

Oxford County residents can take an online survey to voice their thoughts.

OXFORD COUNTY - A public education program about gender based violence is in the works for Oxford County.

It's a partnership between Ingamo Homes and Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) and it's made possible thanks to a grant from the province.

The program will consist of free workshops and a locally made podcast, but Public Education and Fundraising Coordinator Sophie Foster says they need the public's input first.

"We're really wanting the program to be led by the community, so we want to know what does the community want to learn about gender based violence? What do they not know, what do they want to know more about, and how can we curate the curriculum to make sense for our local community, especially because we are a rural community too."

They survey was first posted on Thursday and Foster says it will remain available for a couple of weeks. From there, they will take a couple of months to create the curriculum while looking over the responses, so Foster is hoping to launch the program in the spring or early summer.
