Heart FM continues our profile of the local candidates in the upcoming election with a look at the Green Party candidate Bob Reid.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Green Party candidate for Oxford County is a former journalist and farmer who lives in Blandford-Blenheim.
Bob Reid worked at the Stratford Beacon Harold for 10 years and previously owned a 100 acre farm; known as Punkeydoodles Corner Dairy Goats with his family. Reid also took a year off when he turned 40 with his wife Linda and cycled across New Zealand with his two children, who were 1 and 5 years old at the time. He continues to work as a freelance writer for Ontario Farmer and Rural Voice Magazine.
Reid talks about some of the biggest issues for him in this upcoming election.
"It's climate change, I mean recently the UN came out with its most recent report, which was worse than the last report and even worse than the report before that. So we are seeing a pattern here and it is only getting worse."
He says he understands the Green Party is not going to form the next Government, but if they can get some representation in Government, they can help influence policies that will save the environment. He is hoping that people in Oxford County will put the environment first, when casting a ballot on September 20th.
"I know Oxford County has a strong environmental bent at the municipal level, I have to talked to people in government at the municipal level and they have a lot of plans to cut down on emissions, certainly with their recycling and environmental concerns, so that is the focus of the Green Party."
