Interview with People's Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier

People's Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier called the Heart FM studio from Manitoba this morning to talk about the federal byelection in Oxford County.

OXFORD COUNTY - The leader of the People's Party of Canada called the Heart FM studio this morning for an exclusive interview with Dan and Marcie.

He voiced his support for the new flag policy bylaw in Norwich Township, which states only government flags can be flown on township property.

"We don't want to divide people by their sex or their colour. We want to unite everybody under the Canadian flag."

He also talked about how his party plans to address homelessness. The PPC would like to give more power to the provinces to address it and he would also like to provide them with the GST funds.

"As you know, every year the federal government received around $42-billion with the GST. That must be a provincial tax, so the provincial governments will have the means to raise money for their own jurisdictions."

Bernier is currently running in the federal byelection for the Portage-Lisgar riding in Manitoba. During his interview today, he also voiced his support for local candidate Wendy Martin here in Oxford.

There are five other candidates running against Martin in the Oxford byelection; Arpan Khanna for the Conservatives, David Hilderley for the Liberals, Cody Groat for the NDP, Cheryle Baker for the Green Party, John Markus for the Christian Heritage Party, and Independent candidate John Turmel.

During the interview this morning, Bernier also discussed the following:

- How the PPC is against people transitioning under the age of 18 and how it's currently being taught in schools.

- Accusations that he is "anti-vaccine." He said that's not the case.

- How the PPC would like to abolish the Indian Act and create a new relationship with the Indigenous community.

- His thoughts on today's Daily Debate. Does her prefer the center piece or a brownie or an edge piece?
