Interview with the Warden - Jan 24th 2025

Warden Marcus Ryan talks about the new subdivision that's been approved for Thamesford.

OXFORD COUNTY - Marcus Ryan is very excited about the new subdivision that's been approved for Thamesford.

It's going to create over one-thousand new housing units in the form of single family homes, townhouses, and low rise apartment buildings.

Ryan, who serves as the Warden of Oxford County and the Mayor of Zorra Township, says shovels will be in the ground later this year, but the work won't happen overnight.

"This is going to take decades actually to happen, this kind of thing if not the sort of thing that happens in a year or two, but it's going to be transformational for the village. The centrepiece of the whole thing of going to be a small commercial component to bring new services to the community and a large school that we are still working on with the Ministry of Education and the Thames Valley District School Board that is vitally needed in the community."

When asked about the possibility of affordable housing, Ryan stated that the County is not formerly involved right now, but County and Township staff will be on the lookout for opportunities to make it happen.

The new subdivision will be situated on 100 acres of land south of Brock Street, also known as the old Maple Leaf Foods property.

During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, Warden Ryan also discussed the following:

- His experience at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference last weekend.

- His excitement for the new Lighthouse transitional home in Ingersoll and the opening celebration on February 14th.

- His thoughts on today's Daily Debate: name a book that you had to read in school?
