Police Service Dog Taz will be working alongside Constable Dan Skillings and Police Service Dog Striker.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is welcoming a new Police Service Dog to the force.
Taz is a three-year old sable German Shepherd. He was originally going to be a house dog for someone in Quebec, but that didn't work out so he was sent to Foxfield K9 in Oxford Mills, Ottawa.
Taz passed his General Detection Certification and his General Patrol Certification last year and started responding to tracking and detection calls in Woodstock earlier this year.
Inspector Heidi Becks says Taz is going to be working alongside Police Service Dog Striker, who has been with Woodstock Police for seven years.
“WPS is fortunate to have Constable Dan Skillings and PSD Striker as part of our operational resources. For the past 7 years, Constable Skillings and Striker have become well known to the citizens of Woodstock, through engagement with community members and participation at community events. Constable Skillings and Striker support our officers in tracking and apprehending suspects, searching for and locating missing persons, recovering property, and searching for evidence, including drugs, currency, firearms and ammunition. We are happy to have Taz on board, and to see our K9 program grow and develop within our Service. Constable Skillings and Striker have proven to be an amazing team, and we are confident there will be continued success with Taz joining them!”
Striker is now going to focus more on community service, public education and officer training while Taz handles tracking and detection calls.
Those interested in meeting Taz will be able to spot him at the Touch a Truck event during the Southside Park Canada Day celebrations this Friday.
