The Ayr Centennials have purchased the Kitchener Dutchmen and will be moving out of the PJHL Doherty Division and into the Junior B GOJHL.
AYR - The Ayr Centennials will be moving out of the Junior C Doherty division.
The team announced last night on social media that the Ontario Hockey Association Board of Directors have given a final approval to purchase the Junior B Kitchener Dutchman. This means that Ayr will be hosting Junior B hockey when the hockey season starts up again. President of the Ayr Centennials Hockey Association Jack McEachern says they are thrilled to bring Junior B hockey to the Village of Ayr.
"We are humbled and honoured to have this opportunity. Bringing one of the most storied franchise in the prestigious GOJHL to our little town is very exciting and we will continue to operate as a community owned team. We would like to thank the shareholders of the Dutchies for presenting us with this opportunity. We are very grateful and we will never forget the history of the Dutchies, as that will now become a chapter in the history book of the Ayr Centennials."
Ayr started out with a Junior D team, before moving up to Jr. C and now finally Jr B. McEachern did want to thank the PJHL.
"We would also like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to PJHL Executives for their support and assistance. They have dedicated so many hours helping us find the best solution for our current players and this is very important to us. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to compete in the PJHL."
The Cens have already announced that Jeff Grimwood will be their first ever Jr. B General Manager. Grimwood is no stranger to the Centennials organization being a former GM, coach and player. He has had a successful track record in Jr. C as well as Jr. B, and will help smooth the transition from Kitchener to Ayr.
