David Hilderley wants to make sure Oxford County residents have their voices heard in Ottawa.
OXFORD COUNTY - He was a candidate during the Oxford County federal by-election, and now he's giving it another go.
David Hilderley is once again running for the Liberals after he significantly elevated the local Liberal results in 2023, finishing in second place with 13,574 votes.
In an interview with Heart FM, he explains why he has decided to run again.
"As this election approaches with the critical factors that Canada is facing, using the United States tariffs as an example, it is really a very pivotal and important election. So we have decided to stand up and represent Oxford County again!"
Hilderley is a local realtor and he was also an educator for 34 years. He has lived in Oxford County his entire life, aside from two years he spent teaching in London.
He served as the Chair of the Golden Gala for 15 years, which raised $850,000 for Woodstock Hospital and $500,000 for other local charities. He has also been involved with the multi-million dollar expansion at South Gate Centre in recent years, which will provide a brand new facility that will benefit seniors and other members of the community.
If he becomes our next Member of Parliament, Hilderley wants to make sure Oxford residents have their voices heard in Ottawa.
"Our economy primarily in Oxford County is based on the autoworkers sector and also agriculture with our farmers. They are such an important part of our county and that may not be noticed in Ottawa but it certainly is very important for me to carry that message forward on behalf of our agricultural community."
He says this is a time where we all need to stand united, and the Liberals can bring everyone together.
"This is the party that will be able to bring Canadians together, stand united, and make us stronger as we go forward economically. We don't need to be divisive at this point in time, we need to be together and we need to stand up for Oxford."
Hilderley recently had the opportunity to meet the newly installed Liberal Leader and Prime Minister Mark Carney. He says Carney is just what this country needs; someone who is genuine, down to earth and practical.
"He knows what needs to be done to support our Canadian citizens through very difficult times. He has the international experience to deal with other countries, particularly the United States. He also has a very clear vision of how he wants to build our economy to be the strongest in the G7 nations and I actually have very good faith that he will continue and make that a reality."
Oxford County residents will head to the polls on April 28th.
