Local Speed Limit Increase for Highway 403

The speed limit is 110 kilometres per hour on Highway 403 from Woodstock to Brantford starting today.

WOODSTOCK/BRANTFORD - You can now go a little faster on Highway 403.

The speed limit has officially increased on the stretch of highway from Woodstock to Brantford and from Brantford to Hamilton. It's now 110 kilometres per hour, while other local provincial highways like Highway 401 remain at 100 kilometres per hour between Woodstock and London.

The Ford Government announced this change back in April, affecting 10 sections of provincial highways across Ontario.

Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said the change was the common sense thing to do.

"Most of Ontario's highways were originally designed to safely accommodate speed limits of 110 kilometres per hour and the data from our changes in 2022 shows they do just that. These evidence-based increases are a common-sense change to make life more convenient for Ontario drivers while bringing our highway speed limits in line with other Canadian provinces."

It also brings our highway speeds in line with other provinces across the country. Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan all have a maximum speed limit of 110 kilometres per hour on their highways. British Columbia on the other hand, has a maximum speed limit of 120 kilometres per hour.
