THAMES CENTRE - A Thames Centre resident has reported being a victim of a Netflix fraud.
Middlesex OPP learned about the report yesterday evening and their investigation revealed that the victim received a phone call from an unknown number.
The caller stated they were from Netflix and indicated a refund was available, at which time the victim shared their banking information.
As a result, an unknown amount of money has since been taken from the victim's account.
The investigation is ongoing.
Fraud is a multi-billion dollar per year business and modern, tech savvy, fraudsters will do their best to create confusion and chaos during interactions, leading victims to react impulsively and hand over their money.
Police say it is imperative to verify any unsolicited requests before you respond or provide personal information. If you feel pressured, hang up the phone or delete the sender's profile.
