OXFORD COUNTY - Every single lower tier municipality in Oxford County is being asked to develop a by-law to support the Southwestern public Health face covering order.
However it is important to note that even if a municipality does not support the by-law, they cannot over ride it. The only thing they can do is to pass a by-law to support the order from Southwestern Public Health or enact a by-law with stricter penalties or orders.
Warden and Norwich Township Mayor Larry Martin says some people seem to have been confused by this, so he asked the question yesterday.
"We do not have the authority to exempt anybody from those orders, the only thing we might be able to do is pass a bylaw to make them more restrictive than what the Southwestern Public Health has asked for but we cannot exempt anybody or make them less restrictive."
Martin says everything is coming from Southwestern Public Health.
"They have asked the area municipalities to pass a by-law and basically the by-law would say they support Southwestern Public Health and we would help support the enforcement of it, but as far as that goes, some are going to pass by-laws and some aren't but it will have very little impact on the outcome of the order, whether we pass a by-law or not."
Enforcement on the new Face covering order will start on Thursday.
