The Ingersoll and District Nature Club is looking on the bright side, after being denied funding from County Council.
INGERSOLL - Although they were denied County funding, the Ingersoll and District Nature Club are looking at the positives.
The club had asked council Wednesday for $5,600 to assist with the Oxford County Pollination Awareness Week this November.
Council ultimately said they could not directly finance the event, but still support it.
Club Secretary Deb Bomans says the club will have to reallocate some funds but they will still make the event work.
"I guess we will have to pound the pavement and go to maybe Rotary Clubs and Kiwanis, or some of the businesses, and see what we can do because we really are committed to this and feel it is important to our future."
Bomans says while she's disappointed, there is always a silver lining.
"Maybe this is just a stepping stone for us, and that hopefully when all is said and done, and the Awareness Week takes place, and it's looked on positively, then this is a stepping stone to other -- because we would like to do this throughout the County, not just Tillsonburg, Ingersoll and Woodstock areas, but it takes money and time and we are a small group."
Bomans says pollination is important because it's ultimately the future for our children, "and certainly our food source. Just the awareness of the heaviness of the pesticides, and the mite that burrows on the backs of the bees and is affecting the decline in the bee population; you know, we are not going to have honey or it's going to be liquid gold in the future."
Bomans says the exposure the Club got just by talking to council made the request worthwhile.
Oxford County Pollination Awareness Week is scheduled for November 25-27.
