New bike lanes have been installed on Oxford Road 24.
OXFORD COUNTY - There are new areas for cyclists in Oxford County.
They are in place on Oxford Road 24 between Tavistock and Punkeydoodles Corners. Manager of Transportation and Waste Management, Frank Gross says they are the first steps of the County's primary cycling network identified in the Cycling Master Plan.
"As part of that work, we included the bike lanes, which are paved shoulders with a one-metre separation that is identified with painted white line, as well as rumble strips."
Gross adds, that the new lanes are something that will keep cyclists safe but knows it is everyone's responsibility to ensure everyone gets where they want to go.
"By providing bike lanes with some separation from vehicles, it improves safety overall and then encourages those that want to cycle. Then, it provides connectivity to the rural areas into the urbanized areas."
