The Walk And Talk drop-in program is putting on several activities for the community in Embro and Thamesford twice a week. They'll be at the Thamesford Community Centre today to help with rock painting, going from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
OXFORD COUNTY - Zorra Township's Walk and Talk program is at the Thamesford Community Centre today to help with rock painting.
The initiative is among the many activities they have hosted since they started in the spring of this year.
Recreation Facilities Manager, Matthew Brown says they sat down with local residents to learn their needs and wants in the area.
"It's a program designed for all ages to attend, but we did focus on that there's a need for people or older adults to have recreational opportunities in our community."
The drop-in program runs on Tuesdays in Embro and on Thursdays in Thamesford.
Today's activity will be rock painting inside the Thamesford Community Centre.
Brown says they listen to those who do attend the program and their ideas on weekly activities.
"In both Thamesford and Embro we're just trying to encourage our community members to get out and get involved to meet each other. Some are longstanding residents, some are new members to the community so they can meet each other, get engaged in the community, have a positive social time together and also to just become familiar with their recreational spaces and the programs we offer."
Some of the ideas community members have suggested include board games, card games and puzzles. He adds they have also expressed interest in having speakers come in.
Brown says they went through the summer with a relatively low attendance, however as the colder weather arrives, he says he does expect the attendance to go up.
It goes from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
