INGERSOLL - ERTH Power is bringing a newer facility to Ingersoll.
It will be located at 385 Thomas Street, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday to officially signal the start of the process. The new facility will address capacity limitations and the deteriorating condition of the existing operations centre located at 143 Bell Street.
With the new building, ERTH Power will also be able to meet the future needs of their energy customers. The building’s total electricity usage will be offset by 80% through a 460 kW rooftop photovoltaic solar system. With no natural gas supply to the facility, this will make it the first zero-carbon facility of its kind in Ontario's utility sector.
President and CEO of ERTH Corporation, Chris White says being able to get a new state-of-the-art building will go a long way for the business.
"We are excited to embark on this journey to build a modernized utility operations centre that will not only improve operational efficiency for our utility, but also benefit our customers, community, and the environment. As the energy landscape continues to electrify and evolve, this new facility will position ERTH Power well to continue on with a history of strong reliability and customer responsiveness, while meeting the increasing electricity demands of the future."
Oxford MPP, Ernie Hardeman also commented on how Oxford County will benefit from the new facility.
"I am pleased to support the ground-breaking of ERTH Power's new, state-of-the-art utility operations centre right here in the heart of Oxford County. As the energy sector continues to evolve, this investment will ensure that ERTH Power is equipped to meet the future energy needs of its communities. ERTH Power's strong commitment to decarbonization and environmental sustainability are setting a benchmark for a greener and more resilient energy future in Ontario."
Construction is set to begin this month, and is on pace to be complete by December 2025.
