How do you feel about Justin Trudeau's resignation plan?
OTTAWA - Canada will have a new Prime Minister in the coming months.
Justin Trudeau announced his plans to resign yesterday. He says he will step down as Prime Minister once the Liberals select a new leader, adding it will be a "robust, nationwide, competitive process." He asked the President of the Liberal Party to start that process Sunday night and it will unfold in the months ahead.
Trudeau's political legacy includes the introduction of the Canada Child Benefit, the carbon tax, and the legalization of cannabis.
Cindy Woodhouse, the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, praised his record on reconciliation yesterday. She said Trudeau did more to improve the quality of life for First Nations than any other Prime Minister.
Trudeau says his one regret from his time in office, was not doing something he had pledged during the 2015 election campaign. He never brought about electoral reform to change the way we elect our governments in Canada. He wanted to make it so voters could select a second or third choice on the same ballot.
In a press release yesterday, Oxford County's Conservative MP Arpan Khanna said the Trudeau government's failures have been far-reaching and deeply felt across the country. He said Canadians deserve better.
"For nine years, Trudeau's Liberal government has exacerbated homelessness, ignored skyrocketing food bank usage, and dismissed the needs of farmers and rural Canada."
