Police are sending the warning that no amounts of alcohol or cannabis will be tolerated during R.I.D.E checks tonight.

OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP and local police detachments want everyone gets home safely after New Years Eve celebrations tonight and are hoping the R.I.D.E programs act as a deterrent for drivers contemplating driving under the influence.

As of December 18th - police are no longer required to have reasonable suspicions of impairment.

Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says she is amazed at the number of people they have caught impaired behind the wheel this year.

"It is not worth losing your licence its not worth injuring and hurting people. The R.I.D.E season has begun, so lets make good choices."

Expect to see OPP an local officers continuing to conduct R.I.D.E checkpoints into the New Year as part of the OPP's Provincial Traffic Safety Program. The OPP have laid over 470 charges in the festive R.I.D.E programs.

Please plan ahead and do your part to make this a safe New Year's celebration for everyone.
