Oxford County has logged over 183 000 kilometers so far, but there is still a long way to go as the One Million Kilometer Challenge continues this year.
OXFORD - Oxford County is challenging residents to hit one million kilometres bicycling this summer as a collective unit.
Public Health Nurse Lorna Boratto says they are encouraging everybody to get outside and ride their bike with the Million Kilometre challenge. "We feel that we have a great area for people to bike whether it's on the road or on our trails and would like residents to log their kilometres online at the Ride Oxford web site."
She adds this all part of the County's Share the Road Campaign. Oxford entered into a partnership with Share The Road last year and have been installing signs and bike lanes across the county.
The challenge actually started last year and residents have already logged 183 000 kms on the Ride Oxford web site.
On Monday they are encouraging everyone to come out for a community bike ride in Ingersoll at 6 p.m. at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum.
Following some brief remarks, the Oxford Cycling Advisory Committee along with other cyclists will set out on a 5 km bike ride.
You can register for an account and log your kilometres at www.rideoxford.ca
