ONTARIO - The Ford Government has released it's return-to-play framework for sports teams.
It applies to professional, elite and amateur sport leagues and events across the province.
The framework includes very strict rules in regards to cohorts for practice, training and competitions. It also includes travel protocols as well as private COVID-19 screening and testing. You can find more information online here.
Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Lisa MacLeod says this framework is a step in the right direction.
"Our government remains committed to protecting the health and well-being of all athletes by supporting return-to-play protocols that are safe, evidence-based and gradual. This is an important first step to getting all Ontario athletes back to sport safely, while supporting Ontario-based leagues and events that are strong local economic drivers and job creators."
The province says this framework will allow sports leagues and events to return to play prior to Steps Two and Three of the Roadmap to Reopen Framework.
The Ford Government is also going to allow events hosted by the National Sport Organization take place if they're funded by Sport Canada or recognized by the Canadian Olympic Committee or the Canadian Paralympic Committee. However, the event must only include athletes, coaches and officials that are competing to be a part of the next summer or winter Olympic or Paralympic Games. The event must also be an International Single Sport Event that's authorized by Sport Canada.
