Over the last week, clients and service providers of Southwestern Public Health have informed them of two deaths and multiple non-fatal poisonings relating to purple fentanyl.
Public Health Nurse, Lisa Gillespie speaks to the course of action taken by the Organization to try an combat this news.
"We issued an advisory to remind people of the unsafe street level drugs, and some things that people can do to hopefully prevent an overdose in the future."
Gillespie says what to watch out for if you suspect someone could be having an overdose.
"Often the breathing is a kind of a gurgly sound, or absent all together. They may have blue lips, blue finger nails, body is limp, pupils are pin point and the person just can be roused."
She adds if you see someone overdosing try to give naloxone, call 9-1-1, and stay with the person until paramedics get to the scene. Gillespie says that overdose can be prevented, and if you are concerned about loved ones, talk to them, as there are lots of resources that can help.
