Things are back to normal at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital after a COVID-19 outbreak that took 3 lives.
TILLSONBURG - The Outbreak is over at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
The Hospital first went into outbreak on May 5, in the South inpatient unit. At one point they were only accepting new patients for the critical care unit. A total of 15 patients and 4 staff were linked to the outbreak. Chief Nrusing Officer Charyl Pfaff says they also experienced 3 deaths.
"Tragically, 3 patients with significant underlying conditions contracted COVID-19 through the outbreak and passed away. The team at TDMH want to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of these individuals."
Hospital President and CEO Sandy Jansen says the team worked really hard to keep the outbreak under control.
"Diligent infection prevention and control measures were key in helping control this outbreak. We are so grateful for the support of all staff, physicians, leaders, Southwestern Public Health as well as Alexandra Hospital Ingersoll and Woodstock Hospital."
Significant measures were already in place at TDMH to reduce likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility before the outbreak. Afterwards they expanded on those precautions and surveillance was implemented for the duration of the outbreak.
