The Oxford Attack Under 16 Major Midget Girls used home court to their advantage en route to a silver medal last weekend.
The Oxford Attack Basketball Club Under 16 Major Midget Girls took home a silver medal in their home Ontario Basketball Association sanctioned AA tournament over the weekend.
Teams from all over the province braved the snowy conditions to settle on Woodstock for a great weekend of competitive girls basketball.
The Attack girls played a rugged Caledon Cougars team in the final on Sunday and came up just short of a 32-28 score as both teams played tremendous defense with very little scoring throughout the contest. The Attack’s game plan was to settle back into their strong 3-2 zone defense, keep the game low scoring and situationally score in transition off of turnovers and fast break play. The Attack girls missed more free throws than they usually do during the game and lost a highly contested game in which the gym was electric with fans cheering for their teams.
The Attack opened pool play with resounding win against the local Brantford CYO Falcons 58-31. The Attack next faced the Port Colborne Hornets and rode their outstanding full court pressure defence to a commanding half team lead of 30-7 and a final score of 58-33. The Attack completed pool play with another strong defensive performance limiting the Wallaceburg Airhawks to only 23 points in a dominant 51-23 victory.
