OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Community Foundation has donated nearly $85,000 to 9 local charities.
The money has been given to DASO, Community Living Tillsonburg, Strong Start, Social Planning Council Oxford, Woodstock Art Gallery, Children's Aid Society, Oxford County Community Health Centre, Junior Achievement and Women's Employment Centre.
OCF Executive Director Louise Wardrop says this is the second round of funding they have been able to distribute to local community organizations, who really need the support right now.
"Many of our charities are seeing dramatically reduced donations while being forced to cancel fundraising events, making it difficult to operate during a time when we need them the most. What some of our local organizations have accomplished during this pandemic to support our community and populations made increasingly vulnerable has been heroic, despite all the challenges."
In the first round of funding last summer, the OCF distributed over $200,000 to local charities, who have been struggling to fundraise during the pandemic. Wardrop says unfortunately they couldn't support everyone who needs help right now.
"In Oxford, we continue to see demand for funding exceed available grants during this pandemic. In fact, application requests were more than double the amount we were able to provide."
Wardrop adds that the Oxford Community Foundation was honoured to bring this additional funding to Oxford County.
