The County is applying for funding for items such as a feasibility study for digital services and a water and waste water service to do a service delivery.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council staff will start applying for round 2 of modernization funding from the Province.
Warden Larry Martin says the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing first announced municipal modernization funding in March 2019 to help small and rural municipalities modernize, or upgrade, how they deliver services and seek efficiencies to reduce future costs of those services.
"They have four different things you can apply for digital modernization, service integration, streamlined development and approvals and shared services. Those are the four criteria and we are hoping that what we have applied for will fall into those categories. Mostly it is for modernization, it's used to cut down costs down the road."
Martin explains some of the items they are applying for in Oxford County.
"A feasibility study for our digital services. For instance the County hands out almost $40,000 in invoices every year, so if we can do that digitally and store them digitally, it would take up a lot less room in the building. Water and waste service to do a service delivery on that as well."
The total budget for all of the proposed projects is $661,326, of which $140,714 would be offset from County reserves.
Applications for Intake 2 funding are due to the Ministry this month and projects must be completed by fall 2022.
