Oxford County wants to make sure the waste goes to the proper spot this holiday season.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most wasteful.
Oxford County has a few tips for families as we head into the Christmas holiday.
Wrapping paper should be thrown in your recycling bin unless it's foil-based, then it should go in the trash. You should also try to salvage your ribbons and bow if you can, so they can be used again next year,
Before taking cardboard packaging to the curb, remove all tape, plastic film, twist ties, and other objects. County officials also want you to flatten and bundle all cardboard boxes no larger than 75 x 75 x 20 centimetres.
If you're looking to get rid of old Christmas lights or battery-powered toys that no longer work, remove the batteries before throwing them in the trash. The used batteries can then be taken to the Oxford County Waste Management Facility or the Woodstock EnviroDepot.
If you encounter any bulky Styrofoam while unwrapping gifts, you can take it to the Oxford County Waste Management Facility, Tillsonburg Transfer Station, or Woodstock EnviroDepot.
Garbage and recycling pickup will continue as usual for most of Oxford County this week, except for Woodstock and Tillsonburg. You can find their updated schedule below:
Tillsonburg (bold this in Aiir)
- Those who have a Wednesday collection day will have their garbage and recycling picked up on Saturday, December 28th and Saturday, January 4th.
Woodstock (bold this in Aiir)
- Those who have a Tuesday collection day will have their garbage and recycling picked up on Monday, December 23rd.
- Those who have a Wednesday collection day will have their garbage and recycling picked up on Friday, December 27th and Thursday, January 2nd.
- Those with a Thursday collection day will have their garbage and recycling picked up on Monday, December 30th.
DYK? Foil-based wrapping paper isn't recyclable. Consider reusable alternatives, like gift bags or non-foil papers that are easily recycled.
