Ernie Hardeman calls on government to pass his private members bill
OXFORD COUNTY - The MPP for Oxford County has launched a new petition calling on the government to pass his private members bill.
Ernie Hardeman says his bill will put an end to the abuse of millions of dollars intended for people in need for affordable housing. He tells Heart FM there are millions public dollars intended for social housing that are diverting into a rogue agency.
"Housing Services Corporation where municipalities are forced to buy their insurance and gas are forced to buy their insurance and the gas for their public housing, all through this corporation at a higher price that they could get it elsewhere and that is costing us a lot of social services dollars."
Hardemans bill would allow municipalities to purchase their insurance and the gas for their public housing from the lowest bidder. He notes Oxford County has experienced this abuse of money first hand in their quest to provide more affordable housing.
"It cost us an extra $100,000 a year in Oxford County because of this requirement, than it would if they could buy their insurance and gas from the same suppliers they using for their social housing and obviously this is money that could be used towards the front lines and could go towards more social housing."
