OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford Tourism Awards of Excellence have been handed out.
Meredith Maywood, the Tourism Specialist for Oxford County, says they were presented at the 10th Anniversary Banquet & Awards night for the Rural Oxford Economic Development Corporation, which was held at Otter Creek Golf Club last Thursday night.
"We had some incredible submissions once again this year, and it gets harder and harder every year we host these awards for our panel of judges to select a winner. We have so many businesses in Oxford County going above and beyond to support local tourism and keep guests coming back to the County. I’m pleased that the Tourism Award provides a forum to recognize their efforts and amplify their successes."
Orange Door Acres received the Best New Tourism Product Award. It started out as a small farm gate operation out of Mount Elgin, where people could buy pasture-raised chicken. Now it offers farm education tours as well, where visitors can see how food from the garden, strawberry patch, and the barn ends up on the kitchen table.
Golspie Dairy in Woodstock walked away with the Responsible Tourism Award. It sources local materials for its aging room, has a native species meadow on its property, and it offers a refill program for its milk and soft cheeses.
SixThirtyNine, Thames River Melons, and Canada Grills were named first recipients for the Tourism Partnership Award, while Indigo Lounge Wellness and Eatery was named a second recipient for the award.
