The staff report will look at Front Street and a parking lot on Stover Street North.
NORWICH - Norwich Township Council will consider different parking options for the village of Norwich.
Mayor Jim Palmer says one area in question is Front Street, which is one street south of Main Street and stretches from Avery Street to Highway 59.
"The part that we should be considering for changing into perhaps angle parking from the parking that we do now. It would make the street into a one-way street, so that's something to consider."
Mayor Palmer says it's likely that a day care centre will open in the old Presbyterian Church on Main Street, so more parking will be needed.
He adds the report will also take a look at the parking lot on Stover Street North, across the street from the Shoppers Drug Mart.
"It's a large lot that doesn't get used as much as we'd like to see. People don't seem to want to have to walk, they prefer to ride to where they are going."
Another area that was brought up during the council discussion yesterday was the vacant property on the northeast corner of Carmen Street and Pitcher Street. Palmer says the old Norwich PUC used to store hydro poles and such there, so there is the possibility of some pollution in the area. He says the area has never been improved since, and that's why it has never been sold for housing.
Township Council has directed staff to put together a report about parking in the village, but Mayor Palmer says it could be a while before it returns to council.
"It will likely be near the end of February and it would not be introduced until we have a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). We hope to have a new CAO by the middle of March."
Palmer says the first round of interviews for the CAO position start next week.
