To better help their counties, the Perth and Huron district health units will be merging.
PERTH AND HURON COUNTIES - The Perth District and Huron County health units will be merging.
The plans has been in works for some time, and now their funding request for merger support was approved by the ministry of health and long-term care.
Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health and CEO talks about the reasoning for the merger
"So the goals were to strengthen programs and services. We are two of the smallest health units in the province. We thought together we could leverage resources and strengths and improve the depth of our capacity and better serve our shared partners such as school boards, hospital associations and CAS."
Dr. Klassen says that the health units think they are in a good position.
"So we have now the support of both boards of health, we have the support of the ministry of health, and we have a work plan, and we have the funding so we think we are in a good position moving forward."
The transition is expected to be completed by 2020.
