SWPH is contacting people who may have been in contact with a confirmed case of measles and a probable case from outside the region.
SWPH - Southwestern Public Health is reporting a lab-confirmed case of measles.
Officials say it's a child who was not immunized, and they're currently in hospital. It's unclear if this case is related to the cluster of measles cases that was reported about a month ago.
On top of this, the health unit is also investigating another exposure related to a probable case from outside the region. Officials say the two cases are not directly linked to each other.
The health unit is reaching out to people who may have been exposed in the following locations:
- The Emergency Department of St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday November 23rd to 2:30 a.m. on Sunday November 24th.
- The Aylmer Ultrasound and Aylmer Family Dental clinics between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday November 21st.
If you were at these locations during those time frames are you are not vaccinated against measles, you should contact the health unit by calling 1-800-922-0096.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says the health unit is doing everything it can at this point.
"We are working quite closely with both healthcare settings to inform all known contacts. I want to stress that there was no gap in infection control processes identified at either location. This message is really intended for people who were at these locations that we cannot reach, such as people who visited even briefly during these timeframes. It is our responsibility to inform anyone as quickly as possible if they have been exposed to this virus."
