Unless it is the cruelest and most elaborate April Fools Day joke ever, gas prices will rise by 5 cents a litre on Monday.
OXFORD COUNTY - Gas Prices are set to rise on Monday.
Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gasbuddy.com Dan McTeague says gas prices will rise another 5 cents a litre at midnight on Monday April 1st because of the Federal Carbon Tax.
"Unless gas stations are in the business of selling a lot more beef jerky they have to pass it on the carbon tax increase because it is a tax to the refiner which the refiner then passes on to the gas station."
McTeague says gas prices will rise another 5 cents in April as they switch from a winter to summer blend.
"If you are seeing some gas stations here in Woodstock offering gas for $1.04 cents a litre to a $1.13 cents a litre, look for all those stations to have to add 5 cents a litre. If that weren't enough the timing of Ottawa's tax grab will happen just a week before we move from winter to summer gasoline, which means you can add another 5 cents a litre starting on April 8th.>
McTeague says if gas prices are hovering around a $1.05 in Woodstock right now, the cheapest you will find them is a $1.15 a litre by April 8th, with the high end prices closer to a $1.30 a litre.
According to gasbuddy.com the average price for gas in Oxford County right now is $1.09, with the cheapest at $1.06.
