Police say you should never leave your dog alone in a vehicle on a cold day like today.
OXFORD COUNTY - If it's too cold for you to sit inside the vehicle then it's too cold for your pet.
That is the latest reminder from the OPP. Vehicles can hold in the cold air acting like a refrigerator which could cause your pet to freeze. If you own or are caring for a companion animal, you need to take extra precautions to protect them from the extreme cold.
The Criminal Code of Canada has specific sections that deal with the mistreatment of animals, leading to a maximum sentence of 5 years in jail.
If you see an animal in a vehicle on a cold day that you believe may be in distress contact police immediately.
