Premier Doug Ford says they they have turned over their investigations into 5 long term care homes to Police, says he welcomes a police investigation and that he would testify.
ONTARIO - Premier Doug Ford has a message for Long Term Care Homes in the Province, to get your act together because they will be starting random rigorous inspections right away.
Ford did say that 80 percent of the homes in the Province are doing great work, however the recent report from the Military has shown that we have some major problems. Ford says they are going to turn over their reports to the Police.
"As soon as we received this report on Monday, we launched a full investigation, and the results of our investigation will be turned over to police and now we are taking further steps to protect our most vulnerable. Effective immediately, we have begun the process of taking over management of 5 additional homes in the system that we are currently most concerned about."
All of the homes they are taking over are from the GTA. The Province has already taken over 2 other homes. Ford says they will be ramping up inspections as well.
"We are deploying six teams of two inspectors to each of the five homes highlighted in the armed forces report, as well as the Camilla Care home in Mississauga. They will undertake an expanded and rigorous inspection and monitoring of these homes for a period of two weeks."
Ford says he welcomes any investigations from Police and was asked today if he would testify..
"Absolutely I would appear as a witness and they have the full authority to investigate our Government, my office, the Ministries office, because I'm going to tell you why Colin, we want this to happen, we have been working 24/7 around the clock, I have two incredible Ministers that are doing everything they can to fix a problem we inherited, we are talking about decades of neglect, and to be called as a witness, 100 percent I'll be a witness."
