After much debate, County staff will be taking a closer look at moving Oxford Public Health.
County Council has some concerns when it comes to the possibility of moving Oxford Public Health.
As we told you earlier in the week, council was asked to allow staff to explore the possibility of moving public health closer to the County Administration Building to create some synergies.
Councillor John Lessif said while he thinks the idea of moving the service closer is a good one, more information is needed.
"What the down side of making that decision is having empty space that the County owns, not bringing in revenue, that would be an added cost to the tax payer. So there just needs to be more work done."
Councillor Sandra Talbot felt staff needed to remember this was Woodstock and not Toronto and realize that moving a few blocks, though it may be convenient, was not necessary.
Lessif brought forth an amendment asking that all options for a move be considered and more information be brought forth.
"Staff feel that there's a need to improve the service so we should support that but we need more information before we can make any decisions. We certainly want to know what the impact will be to the taxpayer."
While Public Health's location is working well now, CAO Peter Crockett says placing the service amongst other similar service providers with common clientele comes the opportunity to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and community impact of these services through better coordination and integration of services.
Should council decide the move is appropriate, it would be 2016 at the earliest that the move would take place.
