Public Health Preparing for COVID-19 Vaccine Arrival in Oxford County

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says long-term care home staff will be the first to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Oxford County.

OXFORD COUNTY - The first doses of vaccines are set to arrive in Oxford County soon, however we still don't exactly when that will be

Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health Dr. Joyce Lock says long term care home staff will be vaccinated first.

"The first vaccine that has been approved was the Pfizer vaccine and it has arrived, at least some doses have arrived at the London Health Sciences Centre and some of those doses were specifically geared for long term care home staff in our region."

Dr. Lock says they expect staff will be vaccinated in the next couple of weeks and then they can move into the home for residents.

"All of the staff are eligible to get the vaccine in London and I know many already have. So hopefully in the next few weeks we will get all of our staff vaccinated. Then we are hoping to get more vaccines, perhaps the Pfizer vaccine, perhaps the Moderna vaccine, we don't quite know yet and then we hope to go into the Long Term Care homes themselves and our public health staff will go there and start vaccinating the residents. So it is on the horizon, we don't exactly have the dates yet, but we know it's coming."

Dr. Lock joined Heart FM for an exclusive interview on Wednesday. You can listen to that interview in it's entirety online here
