Enough is Enough.... No More Barn Fires is a new fire prevention campaign launched by the fire departments in West and East Perth.
PERTH COUNTY - The Fire Departments in Perth East and Perth West is reminding farmers about fire safety.
They are hoping to get the message out during the three year anniversary of the now infamous Classy Lane Stables Fire. 43 racehorses perished in the barn fire in Puslinch back in January of 2016. Perth East Fire Chief Bill Hunder says there are a number of factors that prompts the need for an awareness campaign.
"The Classy Lane fire brought a spotlight to the issue of barn fires in terms of media and general public interest, but this has been an ongoing issue for decades. It’s not just the old bank barns burning; we're seeing massive, multi-million dollar operations go up in flames. Too many lives, livelihoods and legacies have been wiped out by barn fires. The fire service has to stand together with the agricultural industry and say, ‘enough is enough; no more barn fires."
The Ontario Fire & Life Safety Educators and the Perth East and West Perth Fire Departments have teamed up as part of a province-wide barn fire safety campaign, “Enough is Enough. No More Barn Fires!
The goal of the campaign is to put an end to barn fires and encouraging agricultural stakeholders to get proactive in preventing fires with safety plans and raising awareness. Supporters and participants can support the campaign with the hashtag #nomorebarnfires.
Barn fires are preventable and often can be avoided with simple maintenance steps
