WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a new cell phone scam making the rounds.
Police say some residents have gotten a text message from a four digit Rogers number from someone pretending to be a secret shopper and basically offer you a job. The shopper will then ask for personal information like your name, address and even ask where you work. After you sign up they tell you a cheque has been sent in the mail and it will be more than you are expecting and you should deposit the cheque into your bank account and forward the remaining funds to an address. Police are warning the public this is a scam and you should never agree to cash a cheque from someone you don't know or wire funds. If you get a call like this please hang up immediately and call police.
