East Zorra-Tavistock's longstanding Mayor is running for re-election.
EAST ZORRA-TAVISTOCK - Taking everyone by surprise; Don McKay has decided to run for re-election as Mayor of East Zorra-Tavistock.
McKay had announced his plans to retire last December, after serving the municipality for 15 years as the man in charge.
But shortly afterwards, a lot his constituents encouraged him to stick around for another term.
"I looked at myself and said 'am I still willing?' The answer was yes so I am putting myself forward as a willing candidate to continue as Mayor of East Zorra-Tavistock."
If he's voted back in he would like to strengthen the relationship between staff and council.
"Council is there to govern and oversee and we need staff to be fully energized and supported to do their role in serving community."
McKay says the high speed rail has also been a big issue in recent years.
"I think we've successfully lobbied against that but more importantly is we need the alternative; we still need to fix Southwestern Ontario transportation issues."
McKay has worked with the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus to put together a South-West transportation plan over the past 10 years. Oxford County has published a report about it and now they're looking for support.
