A free seminar will feature pharmacist and author of Saving Women's Hearts Sherry Torkos as she tries to get women to take matters of the heart seriously.
WOODSTOCK - An upcoming seminar hopes to get to the heart of a very serious disease.
Sherry Torkos is a pharmacist and author of the book titled Saving Women's Hearts. She will be speaking at the seminar and says excess stress and lack of sleep can greatly impact the heart.
"I'm going to talk about the role of stress management, sleep and how that factors into the equation. In fact, lack of sleep has been recognized as having a more significant impact on women's hearts than men's. So we are going to talk about these issues".
Torkos says although the seminar's focus is on women's hearts, men are encouraged to attend as well.
"We're hoping that men will come out because a lot of the information is great take home information for men as well".
Torkos says heart disease can be deadly for both men and women.
"When it comes to heart disease a lot of people have the image of an overweight middle aged man and they don't think about it as a woman's disease. It kills by far way more people than breast cancer and I think there is so much that needs to be done with respect to education and empowering women to take charge of their hearts and be proactive and preventative".
The seminar will begin at 6 p.m. on February 18th at the Quality Hotel and Suites in Woodstock.
