A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Woodstock and Oxford County. Thunderstorm watches and warnings are happening across southwestern Ontario ahead of a cold front sweeping into the region. In Oxford there is a potential for some of these thunderstorms to become severe this evening. The main threat will be damaging winds to 90 km/h. Some hail is also possible. The threat of severe thunderstorms will diminish later this evening. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
