Councillor Shapton has put forth a motion for a repeal of a human resources policy after seeing troubling practices from London council
WOODSTOCK - A repeal was put forth to keep city councillors on the straight and narrow.
During the Thursday City Council session Councillor Shawn Shapton put forth the appeal aimed at keeping councillors from dipping into the public's pockets near the end of their term. "I put forth the motion to appeal a human resources policy that basically - if you're not re-elected you were paid out for it. And I just thought it's time to remove that from our system."
Shapton felt the motion was necessary after seeing troubling issues in London. "What happened in London was some of the city councillors that were not re-elected - of course they still have a couple of months before their term ends - and they put new tires on their car which is allowed under their policies. And I just wanted to do some research to make sure we didn't have anything like that. And more than anything I want the public to know we are acting in good faith."
The incident in London cost taxpayers $2 866 when three councillors had new tires fitted between the night they lost the election and their final day in office
