Smile Cookies can be purchased at the Tim Hortons locations in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Norwich, Thamesford, and Tavistock. They cost $1.50 (plus tax) each and all of the money raised will benefit local charities.
OXFORD COUNTY - Smile Cookies have returned to Tim Hortons locations in Oxford County and beyond.
The chocolate chip cookies will be sold for $1.50 each (plus tax) starting today and lasting until Sunday May 7th. All of the funds raised support a local charity selected by the location.
Michelle Dykstra, the Fund Development Coordinator for VON Oxford, says half of the funds raised at the Woodstock and Ingersoll locations will be going to Sakura House.
"It is a 10-bed hospice that is available at no cost to people who need it and that's really our message that we get out there. It's the reason we need to fundraise for it because it's a costly facility to have. We are lucky to be partly funded by the government but unfortunately, that doesn't cover everything."
The other half of the funds raised in Woodstock and Ingersoll will go to United Way Oxford. Resource Development Coordinator Mike Crabbe says they always put the money to good use.
"We invest it into organizations and programs across Oxford County that are helping people who are struggling with poverty, those who need assistance with timely and accessible mental health and addictions support, as well as youth in making sure they have mentorship, a sense of belonging and opportunities to skill build."
The Woodstock and Ingersoll locations sold over 98,000 Smile Cookies last year, so they're hoping to sell over $100,000 this year.
Looking at some of the other Tim Hortons locations in Oxford County, Tillsonburg will be raising money for Special Olympics Tillsonburg, Norwich will be supporting the local Salvation Army, Thamesford is raising funds for Andrew's Legacy, and Tavistock will be donating to the Tavistock Assistance Program.
