The group is also seeking financial support to assist those in the community
OXFORD COUNTY - The Social Planning Council of Oxford provided a progress report at the latest Oxford County Council meeting.
Asking for more financial support was what the group also hoped for in their presentation. Executive Director of the SCPO, Ashley Farrar, breaks down how far the committee has come in a short period of time. "We shared the cycle of work that we do that includes, building evidence and then bringing groups of people together in the community, and pushing for progressive change. We shared information about a recent project that we were involved in Tillsonburg on transportation, and the steering committee that was formed out of our work has now been awarded $100,000 from the Ministry of Transportation."
Farrar is waiting to hear the decision about the increase in funds as it could greatly help the committee. "Right now our planning council has one part time employee and so there is a lot more work that we can do to improve the well-being of our residents. With an increase in funding we will be able to increase in hours potentially increase the number of positions, and work on more social issues."
After having a successful year Farrar was also pleased to announce a big goal for 2016 they are hoping to reach. "So we have some goals set for 2016 one of the big ones is working on a needs assessment for bringing a community food centre to Woodstock, and then it would be applying to external grants to receive funding for that." The group won't know if they will receive more money until the budget is finalized.
