Get ready to pay more for hydro, says Energy Minister
Get ready to get zapped by rising hydro bills...again.
Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli warned consumers today that their electricity bills could jump more than 30% in the next three years.
In fact, the average monthly residential bill of $125 will rise to $178 within five years, a very substantial 42% increase.
But Chiarelli also claims it will still be $100 less per year, thanks to Liberal moves like shutting down plans for two new nuclear reactors. Chiarelli blames an “energy deficit” the Liberals inherited from the Progressive Conservatives in 2003. $32-billion has been spend, Chiarelli says, to improve transmission and distribution networks and in new cleaner generation.
P-C Leader Tim Hudak says the Liberal's energy policy will cost jobs by driving more companies out of Ontario.
Another announcement today in the Liberal's energy plan will offer home owners "on-bill financing" for loans for home renovations aimed at making your home more energy efficient.
The loans would be paid back through your monthly electricity bill.
