OPP will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this evening as the New England Patriots face the Atlanta Falcons in Superbowl 51.
Lots of people will be huddled around a TV while the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons meet in
Whether you choose to watch the big game at a bar or at a house party, chances are there will probably be alcohol present. OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk says you should think before you drink.
"If you are planning on drinking alcoholic beverages remember to plan ahead, arrange for a designated driver, take a cab, call a sober driver for a ride or plan to stay over."
OPP will be cracking down on impaired drivers this evening, setting up multiple RIDE programs throughout the province. Sanchuk tells Heart FM there are a variety of penalties a driver could face if they are caught drunk driving.
"Under the Criminal Code if you are charged with impaired driving you could lose your licence for up to a year and your insurance rates go through the roof. Not only that but it really comes down to the fact that you're not only putting your life in jeopardy but also the lives innocent motorists and people on our roadways."
Superbowl party hosts are also being encouraged to ensure all of their guests have a ride home later. They should have the phone numbers of the local cab companies available and take the keys away from anyone who may attempt to drink and drive.
