First-time parents will be paired with a public health nurse until their child turns two years old.
SWPH - A new partnership between Southwestern Public Health and the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program looks to help first-time parents in Oxford, Elgin, and St. Thomas.
The Nurse-Family Partnership is a free home-visiting program, where those who are registered are paired with a public health nurse until their child turns two years old.
Public Health Nurse Kayla Rooke says the first-time parents will be able to learn more about healthy practices during pregnancy in addition to safe and nurturing parenting skills.
"Our goal is to empower young parents by providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to give their child a healthy start in life."
The parents will also learn more about budgeting, stress management, and local resources within their community.
You have to be no more than 28 weeks pregnant with your first child to apply for the program. You also have to be under the age of 24 and be experiencing social or financial hardships. You can find more details online here.
