Toronto-Danforth MPP Peter Tabuns has been named the interim leader of the Ontario NDP.
ONTARIO - The longtime MPP for Toronto-Danforth is now the interim leader of the Ontario NDP.
The party selected Peter Tabuns last night, so he will lead the party until a new leader is elected. He released the following statement on his Twitter page last night
"My thanks to the members of the #ONDP who have appointed me their interim leader. I appreciate your confidence and your trust. You know I will fight for the people of this province, I know you will too."
The Ontario NDP says the provincial council will be meeting at a later date in order to determine the rules and date for the leadership election
Andrea Horwath stepped down as party leader earlier this month, after the recent provincial election. She was the leader of the Ontario NDP for 13 years and she will continue to serve as the NDP MPP for Hamilton Centre.
Tabuns was first elected in Toronto-Danforth back in 2006 and he has served as the critic for several portfolios, including energy and environment.
My thanks to the members of the #ONDP who have appointed me their interim leader. I appreciate your confidence and your trust. You know I will fight for the people of this province, I know you will too.
