A panel of judges will select 4 winners who will have their plays produced by Theatre Woodstock early next year for a virtual festival.
WOODSTOCK - Theatre Woodstock is hosting a playwriting contest.
Writers are asked to submit 15-30 minute plays written to be performed live on zoom or a similar app. General Manager Stephanie Flannigan says anyone can submit their work.
"The plays are going to focus on the theme home, however they interpret that and just as sort of a writing prompt, we say to incorporate an ugly lamp somehow as a prop in their show."
Flannigan says they're excited to see what local writers have to offer.
"I can't even remember the last time we had a local writer featured and produced by theatre Woodstock, so it is nice to be able to tap into all of the talent that exists in our community and be able to give them a platform."
Four winners will be selected by a panel of judges and have their plays produced by Theatre Woodstock and featured in the Virtual Playwriting Festival next year. Each play will have a $200 budget.
Winning playwrights can choose their own crew/actors or Theatre Woodstock will provide them with actors from their database of volunteers. Plays must be submitted via email to gm@theatrewoodstock.com by January 9th, 2021.
