Oxford County Public Health have confirmed a third case of West Nile. A mosquito pool in Tillsonburg tested positive this time. The other two were in Ingersoll and Woodstock. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is reporting an increase of the West Nile virus in mosquito pools, as well as probable and confirmed human cases across the province this summer. Public Health remind people to protect themselves against mosquito bites by applying bug spray with DEET and wearing light-coloured clothing, long sleeves and pants especially during dawn and dusk. People should also reduce the risk of breeding grounds around their homes by draining all standing water after seven days. Public Health & Emergency Services say they have increased mosquito surveillance and are larvaciding public catch basins to help with controlling the mosquito population.
