Community Safety and Media Relations Constable Randi Crawford had some winter-related reminders to share during the February edition of Tip Tuesday.
OXFORD COUNTY - It has certainly been a winter to remember in Oxford County.
We have seen quite a bit of snow this year, more than we've seen in quite some time, resulting in a lot of snow build-up.
During her monthly Tip Tuesday interview on the Heart FM morning show today, Randi Crawford with the Oxford OPP had this reminder for everyone.
"You really have to try to chisel down those snowbanks on the corners especially to ensure visibility for everyone, not just drivers but also pedestrians."
She said drivers should be extra cautious when pulling into and pulling out of driveways, making sure to inch forward or backward. It's also important to keep an eye out for snowmobile operators around this time of year.
With the fluctuating temperatures we have been seeing this week, Crawford would also like to remind everyone that no ice is safe ice.
"We want to make sure that you're extra cautious this time of the year as the weather is fluctuating. So if you remember that no ice is safe ice, we've had a great long winter but now is the time to find other things to do off the ice to have fun because it is so unpredictable right now."
If you still want to go skating, Crawford recommends visiting a local community centre or outdoor rink.
She also took the time to shine a light on the winter blues, adding it's common for people to feel down around this time of the year due to the snowy conditions, the short days and the lack of sunshine. Crawford says we have lots of great resources in our community to help with this.
"211 is a resource that can help get you in touch with other resources in our community. There's also the Canadian Mental Health Association or Wellkin for the younger ones. There are so many resources out there, we have so many wonderful and trained professionals who truly care, and we want to make sure that we can all help each other get through this winter and into the spring when the sun comes out and we all feel a lot better."
The next Tip Tuesday is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25th and you can submit a question online here.
